 <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V2\">2\u00a0<\/a><\/span>To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V3\">3\u00a0<\/a><\/span>To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V4\">4\u00a0<\/a><\/span>To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V5\">5\u00a0<\/a><\/span>A wise <span class=\"add\">man<\/span> will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V6\">6\u00a0<\/a><\/span>To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings. <\/div><div class=\"p\"> <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V7\">7\u00a0<\/a><\/span>The fear of the LORD <span class=\"add\">is<\/span> the beginning of knowledge: <span class=\"add\">but<\/span> fools despise wisdom and instruction.  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V8\">8\u00a0<\/a><\/span>My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V9\">9\u00a0<\/a><\/span>For they <span class=\"add\">shall be<\/span> an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck. <\/div><div class=\"p\"> <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V10\">10\u00a0<\/a><\/span>My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V11\">11\u00a0<\/a><\/span>If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V12\">12\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V13\">13\u00a0<\/a><\/span>We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V14\">14\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V15\">15\u00a0<\/a><\/span>My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V16\">16\u00a0<\/a><\/span>For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V17\">17\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V18\">18\u00a0<\/a><\/span>And they lay wait for their <span class=\"add\">own<\/span> blood; they lurk privily for their <span class=\"add\">own<\/span> lives.  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V19\">19\u00a0<\/a><\/span>So <span class=\"add\">are<\/span> the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; <span class=\"add\">which<\/span> taketh away the life of the owners thereof. <\/div><div class=\"p\"> <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V20\">20\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V21\">21\u00a0<\/a><\/span>She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, <span class=\"add\">saying, <\/span>  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V22\">22\u00a0<\/a><\/span>How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V23\">23\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. <\/div><div class=\"p\"> <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V24\">24\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V25\">25\u00a0<\/a><\/span>But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V26\">26\u00a0<\/a><\/span>I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V27\">27\u00a0<\/a><\/span>When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.  <span class=\"verse\"> <a name=\"V28\">28\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer;
