Book V <\/div>
\r\n 1\u00a0<\/a><\/span>O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is<\/span> good: for his mercy endureth<\/span> for ever. <\/div>
2\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy; <\/div>
3\u00a0<\/a><\/span>And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south. <\/div>
4\u00a0<\/a><\/span>They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in. <\/div>
5\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. <\/div>
6\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and<\/span> he delivered them out of their distresses. <\/div>
7\u00a0<\/a><\/span>And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation. <\/div>
8\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Oh that men<\/span> would praise the LORD for<\/span> his goodness, and for<\/span> his wonderful works to the children of men! <\/div>
9\u00a0<\/a><\/span>For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness. <\/div>
10\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being<\/span> bound in affliction and iron; <\/div>
11\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High: <\/div>
12\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was<\/span> none to help. <\/div>
13\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and<\/span> he saved them out of their distresses. <\/div>
14\u00a0<\/a><\/span>He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder. <\/div>
15\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Oh that men<\/span> would praise the LORD for<\/span> his goodness, and for<\/span> his wonderful works to the children of men! <\/div>
16\u00a0<\/a><\/span>For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder. <\/div>
17\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted. <\/div>
18\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death. <\/div>
19\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and<\/span> he saveth them out of their distresses. <\/div>
20\u00a0<\/a><\/span>He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them<\/span> from their destructions. <\/div>
21\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Oh that men<\/span> would praise the LORD for<\/span> his goodness, and for<\/span> his wonderful works to the children of men! <\/div>
22\u00a0<\/a><\/span>And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing. <\/div>
23\u00a0<\/a><\/span>They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; <\/div>
24\u00a0<\/a><\/span>These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep. <\/div>
25\u00a0<\/a><\/span>For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof. <\/div>
26\u00a0<\/a><\/span>They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble. <\/div>
27\u00a0<\/a><\/span>They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit\u2019s end. <\/div>
28\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses. <\/div>
29\u00a0<\/a><\/span>He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. <\/div>
30\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven. <\/div>
31\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Oh that men<\/span> would praise the LORD for<\/span> his goodness, and for<\/span> his wonderful works to the children of men! <\/div>
32\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders. <\/div>
33\u00a0<\/a><\/span>He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground; <\/div>
34\u00a0<\/a><\/span>A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein. <\/div>
35\u00a0<\/a><\/span>He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings. <\/div>
36\u00a0<\/a><\/span>And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation; <\/div>
37\u00a0<\/a><\/span>And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase. <\/div>
38\u00a0<\/a><\/span>He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease. <\/div>
39\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Again, they are minished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow. <\/div>
40\u00a0<\/a><\/span>He poureth contempt upon princes, and causeth them to wander in the wilderness, where there is<\/span> no way. <\/div>
41\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction, and maketh him<\/span> families like a flock. <\/div>
42\u00a0<\/a><\/span>The righteous shall see it,<\/span> and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth. <\/div>
43\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Whoso is<\/span> wise, and will observe these things,<\/span> even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD. <\/div>
